US Senator Visits Nuuk to Discuss Greenland’s Views
Lisa Murkowski will travel to Greenland on Friday, Aaja Chemnitz, a Greenlandic member of the Danish parliament, told Danish media.
"The plan is that she will go to Nuuk to visit a number of influential people over the weekend to gain an understanding of the Greenlandic points of view," Chemnitz noted.
The visit comes ahead of negotiations in the working group set to discuss a future agreement between Greenland, Denmark, and the United States.
Tensions surrounding Greenland remain following US President Donald Trump’s controversial attempt to acquire the Danish territory. However, Trump moderated his stance last week after meeting NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Davos, Switzerland. He stated that the discussion included a framework for a potential deal addressing security concerns and countering Russian and Chinese influence.
